How much do I need?

Each bag contains at least 100 level tablespoons of Ecofetti.

We recommend using dry grains of rice to see how many tablespoons you’ll need per person, then multiply that by your number of guests, and divide by 100.

Our Glassines, for example, are 2.75″ x 2.75″ and hold 2 Tbsp of Ecofetti.

What is the difference between White and Snow White Ecofetti?

Snow White is a much fluffier cut than any of our other colors. It is designed to look like snow when thrown or spread out on a surface. Because it behaves so differently from all of our other colors, we do not recommend mixing Snow White with other Ecofetti colors unless you know what you’re getting into.

Because Snow White is much less dense than our other colors, it dissolves much quicker in water. However, it does get caught in the wind easily and does not go as far when you throw it. It does look exactly like snow; so if that is the effect you want, definitely go with Snow White.

All other Ecofetti colors are meant to look like rice. Their size, shape, and density all emulate grains of rice.

I am unsure of the color to order. Can I order an Ecofetti sample?

Absolutely! Our Samples ship with one packet of each color. The colors on this site compared to actual product may vary depending on your screen, and the best way to be sure is to see it in person!

If you will be using Ecofetti for a toss after dark, we recommend White or a mixture that includes White, which will show much more clearly on a dark background.

What is Ecofetti made from?

Ecofetti is made from blown cornstarch, similar to biodegradable packing peanuts you may have seen. It breaks down quickly when exposed to very high humidity or water.

The dye we use is also biodegradable and non-toxic, similar to food coloring. Ecofetti is safe to use around children and wildlife.

What should I do if it rains the day of my event?

We recommend you DO NOT use Ecofetti in the rain or extremely high humidity (as it is water-soluble). Simply save it for another special occasion. 🙂

How long does it take for Ecofetti to disintegrate?

Ecofetti is amazing, but it is not magic. It does take a good 5-10 hours of heavy rain to disintegrate. (A bit of movement with a rake or whatnot after the rain stops but before the ground dries helps this process along quite nicely.) The high density of Ecofetti adds to both its interesting shape and texture and its melting time.

Snow White Ecofetti is much lighter and less dense; therefore, it disintegrates much more quickly: Snow White usually only take 3-5 hours of heavy rain to melt it away.

We also recommend brushing it off of concrete before applying water, as Ecofetti can get stuck in the nooks and crannies of concrete and take longer to dissolve. Typically, over grass, a short application with a hose will cause Ecofetti to dissolve enough to be not noticeable.

Does Ecofetti stain?

We have never had a complaint of Rice Cut Ecofetti staining; however, we cannot guarantee that it will not.

Synthetic materials have a hard time holding dye and are unlikely to stain. Organic materials like cotton would be much more apt to hold the color if it happens to rain that day.

Is Ecofetti flammable?

Ecofetti will burn if exposed to a flame or heat for long enough, and care should be taken when used near either. That said, it doesn’t burn anywhere nearly as readily as tissue paper would. In our own tests, Ecofetti dropped over an open flame will singe but not catch fire. If a flame were to be dropped and kept on a pile of Ecofetti, that would be a cause for concern as the pile would ignite.

When should I order?

MOST orders ship within 2-3 business days after ordering, but please allow for 7-10 business days for our team to complete your order. Ecofetti can be safely stored in a dark, cool, dry environment for over a year, so feel free to order as soon as you have decided on your color and distribution method. You cannot order too early.

Is your site secure?

Yes! Your privacy is important to us! We never disclose any information about our customers to another source. What are my shipping options?

Items are shipped via USPS Priority Mail and will arrive about 2-3 business days after shipment. All of our products are shipped either in recycled shipping boxes, or boxes made of 65% minimum post-consumer materials. We ask that you reuse your boxes whenever possible.

Unfortunately, we are no longer able to provide an express shipping service.

Do you ship internationally?

Of course! We do suggest that you allow an extra 2-4 weeks for International Shipments to arrive.

Can I check the delivery status of my order?

Absolutely. You will be notified by an email including your tracking number when your package has shipped.

I’ve tried to Track my package but no real information is coming up or it appears to be invalid. What do I do?

Please wait a few hours after you receive your Tracking email as it may take USPS some time to be fully updated. If you received a tracking email, rest assured that your order is on its way!
