The average American uses about 90 gallons of water each day! Practice water conservation. Do not let water run while brushing teeth or shaving; install low-flow showerheads and toilets... Please use water wisely!
REUSE ITEMS Try to reuse items as many times as possible. If you do not have a use for items that are still good or operational, donate them to a local charity or environmental organization. We reuse cardboard boxes whenever possible, and ask you to reuse them also!

Reuse-A-Shoe Program
Drop off old athletic shoes (any brand) at sporting goods stores participating in Nike's Reuse-a-Shoe program. The shoes are taken apart and ground into small pieces which are used for several purposes. Did you know, it takes approximately 3,000 shoes to make a basketball court! Follow this link to find the store near you (Go to Responsibilty / Environment) or Call Nike at 503-532-5849.
RECYCLE The average American uses 580 pounds of paper each year. As a nation we consume 850 million trees annually. If Americans recycled just 1/10 of their newspapers, we would save 25 MILLION trees a year.
When buying computer or typing paper - purchase recycled...(recycled paper has 30% post-consumer content). Look for paper that’s PCF (Processed Chlorine Free). This paper is an affordable, environmentally friendly alternative to virgin, chlorine-bleached paper; and takes 60% less enery to produce!
Americans throw away 2.5 million plastic bottles EVERY HOUR!
For every glass bottle recycled, we save enough energy to light a 100 watt light bulb for 4 hours.
Buy products that use less packaging. Product packaging accounts for about 33% of all household garbage. If we refuse to buy products that are overpackaged, the manufacturers will be forced to change to more environmentally responsive options.
